Trainee’s Feedback

~ What we learned in Fellowship Program ~

State Railway of Thailand
Mr. Chettana Wutthiyan
Fellowship Program 2005 Trainee

In Fellowship Program, I learned railway business strategies, such as railway transportation, travel service, car rental, hotel, real estate business and efficient use of station space. In addition, I learned to value customers and to listen to our customers’ opinions and requests, and the attitudes to work on the tasks seriously, with interdivisional cooperation to achieve the company goals.

Since I returned to my country, I have been working on to keep the sustainable business even other than transportation business by making use of what I learned in Fellowship Program. For example, we strengthened the connections with travel agencies and increased the domestic and overseas tour plans.

Also to increase the number of passengers traveling by train, we introduced new train cars. This train is equipped with a vending machine and a dining car, inspired by Cassiopeia and Hokutosei (overnight trains.)

In Fellowship Program, I learned how important it is for all the employees to think about the ways of improving the working process. On the field studies in Fellowship Program, I saw a wide variety of practical facilities and equipment for educational training, and inspection and maintenance works were conducted in accordance with detailed explanations and procedures printed with a lot of pictures.

After I returned to my country, I made the most of what I learned in Fellowship Program and made the instruction manual for educational training. As I am a teacher of the railway college, I instructed my students to conduct facility inspections based on a checklist, as well as how to make the checklist.

Through my instructions, I believe that my students have become more aware of the necessity of paying careful attention to any possible risk during maintenance works, when crossing the railroad tracks, etc., and they will apply that in their future work.

The useful things I have learned in Fellowship Program are how to be disciplined, how to be hardworking and dedicated in the designated work, how precious time is, and to always put safety first in all aspects of work.

There are a lot of memorable things during my whole stay in Fellowship Program, which I will remember for the rest of my life. First, the warm welcome given to us treating each one of us as if a part of the family. There was not a single day that I felt bored or alone since it was my first travel abroad.

Second, riding different types of trains I wish Philippines have in the future.

Third, I miss all of my co-trainees. Until now we still contact each other through SNS.
