The universal design (UD) concept was proposed by late Prof. Ron Mace of North Carolina State University about 20 years ago. Today, the concept is applied to homes, motor vehicles, electric appliances, stationery, daily goods, fashion, etc. In No. 45 issue, the feature Railway Universal Designs and Architectural Features introduces UD examples especially in Japanese railways and architectural features of Dutch transport infrastructure.
