Koizumi Junsaku

Traces of an Individual Joumey

2001/04/07 - 2001/05/13

Koizumi Junsaku's (1924-) depictions of many of Japan's most famous mountains have opened new horizons in suibokuga (ink painting). He has recently spent about two years creating a painting of dragons and clouds for the ceiling of the Lecture Hall at the Kenchoji Temple in Kamakura as part of the temple's 750th anniversary celebrations, and is currently at work on another ceiling painting to mark the 800th anniversary of the Kenninji Temple in Kyoto. This first retrospective exhibition of Koizumi's work celebrates the "splendid isolation" of a man who owes allegiance to no artistic grouping.
