102 Years of Dedication to Woodblock Prints The Art of Un-ichi Hiratsuka 2000/04/08 - 2000/05/14 One of the founders of the Sosaku hanga [Creative Print] movement, Un'ichi Hiratsuka (1895-1997) was instrumental in setting up the annual Kokugakai exhibition and played a leading role in the promotion of the graphic arts, including among his pupils the internationally-renowned print artist Shiko Munakata. This exhibition of about 280 pieces offers a comprehensive overview of Hiratsuka's career, starting with his early woodcuts and polychrome prints, continuing with groundbreaking monochrome works created in the years leading up to his departure for the U.S., and concluding with the series of female nudes executed during his time in America. Artist: Unichi Hiratsuka |
