Shinichi Saito (1922-1994) traveled through the Tsugaru and Hokuriku regions of northern Japan, painting works filled with nostalgia on subjects such as goze (blind female street singers) and the weariness of the long-distance traveler. The exhibition presents about 130 representative works, including some 90 oil paintings, as well as illustrated diaries, picture scrolls, and drawings, grouped under five themes.
