Japanese Red Cross Collection of Fine Arts

Many works of art were donated by artists in Japan, for the new Japanese Red Cross Head-quarters Building commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Japanese Red Cross. This exhibition presented 52 not previously shown paintings and wood-block prints from 36 artists deeply impressed by the Red Cross spirit of "Humanity, Universal Love and Service to Others". Revelation to Solferino, by Seiji Togo was painted when Togo went to Italy to paint a portrait of Henri Dunan, the founder of the International Red Cross. Other exhibits included works by Horyu Goseida, Kaii Higashiyama, Ryuzaburo Umehara, Pablo Picasso and Kenkichi Sugimoto.
